The Biewer Lumber family has two sawmills right in the heart of Red Pine country—one in McBain, Michigan and the other in Prentice, Wisconsin. Our sawmills are fully automated, modern, high-tech facilities, vertically integrated to provide the highest-quality building products for our customers. As the two largest-volume, random-length mills in the Midwest, we have the capacity to produce more than 160 million board feet of dimensional lumber and timber annually.

A sawmill's basic operation is much like it was a hundred years ago: A log enters on one end, and dimensional lumber exits on the other end. However, the process today is much more sophisticated. Now, after a log enters the mill and is barked and bucked to length, it is scanned. A computer then determines the best yield for that particular piece of timber, be it dimensional lumber, timbers or both.

Biewer Sawmill – McBain, Michigan
Biewer Lumber opened its first sawmill in McBain, Michigan, in 1984, producing at an annual capacity of 75 million feet. The sawmill's twin Clip-N-Saws produce Red Pine dimensional lumber, boards and timbers used in the pressure-treated lumber industry, as well as SPF narrow dimension and studs. Three computer-controlled dry kilns condition Biewer Lumber to 19% moisture content before the boards are surfaced in our Newman 990 twelve-head planer.

Biewer Sawmill – Prentice, Wisconsin
Biewer Lumber’s largest sawmill, in Prentice, Wisconsin, includes the mill, four dry kilns and a planning mill under one roof. The Prentice mill began producing 85 million feet of Red Pine dimensional lumber, boards and timbers annually in 1990. All lumber processed by Biewer sawmills is heat-treated to eliminate transferable fungus and pests. Our finished product is stamped with heat-treated and Association imprints, and orders can be paper-wrapped upon request.

Biewer encourages environmentally responsible sustainable forestry practices and employs several foresters at each mill to manage timber procurement. Read about our commitment to the environment in Why We Are Green.
